Ball Guard Assembly and Installation

The ball guard system consists of modules which are supported from the underside of the radiant tube from brackets. The ball guard sections are fitted in tandem along the system.

Assembly and Installation AR/VS/VSL

Note: SE/VSO & VSXO are detailed later in this article.

Assemble the Radiant Tube Heater as per the Assembly instruction sheets.

Starting at the burner end, position a ‘U’ bolt (C) around the radiant tube on the inside of the reflector, through the guard bracket (B) and secure using with nuts (E) and washers (D).

Noting the length of the ball guard from the data shown within these instructions, position the next guard bracket along the tube at the correct distance.

The ends of the ball guard should fall Inside the retaining tabs of each bracket and be allowed movement (see below).

Note: Ballguards are not designed to overlap.

The ‘U’ bolt/bracket assemblies should be positioned perfectly square to ensure that the ball guard module lies horizontal when fitted.

Offer the first ball guard (A) to the first fixed bracket (B). Secure in position by inserting the cotter pins [also known as split pins] (F) through the holes and bend the tails.

General assembly details

Temporally position the other end of the ball guard to the second guard bracket with cotter pins (F).

Again noting the length of the next ball guard from the data, position the next guard bracket along the tube at the correct distance.

Offer the second ball guard (A) to the second fixed bracket (B) and secure the cotter pins (F).

Temporally position the other end of the ball guard to the second guard bracket with cotter pins (F).

General assembly details

Continue this method along the radiant tube with further ball guards as necessary.

Assembly and Installation SE/VSO/VSXO

Note: AR/VS/VSL detailed earlier.

M102005-SUB (2 Module)

Starting approx. half way down the heater, position the guard bracket (B) to the tubes using the two U bolts (C) and nuts (E) to suit. (The bracket is positioned between the overshields avoiding the tube joint coupler).

The ‘U’ bolt/guard bracket assembly should be positioned perfectly square to ensure that the ball guard module lies horizontal when fitted.

Locate the long nuts (J) and tighten onto each U bolt thread including the U bolts on the existing suspensions brackets (H).

Noting the correct length of the ball guard from the data shown within these instructions, locate the smaller ball guard (A) [2 persons may be required]. Sandwich one end between the retaining plates (F), offer to the first existing suspension bracket (H) closest to the burner and fasten through the plates and guard into the long nuts (J) using the bolts (K) and washers (D).

A: Ball Guard, D: Washer. F: Retaining Plate, J: Long Nut, K: Bolt

Where the leg of the brackets passes through mesh, remove mesh wire with suitable snips to suit.

Locate the larger ball guard (A) [2 persons may be required]. Sandwich one end between 4 retaining plates (F), offer to the last existing suspension bracket (H) closest to the U bend and fasten through the plates and guard into the long nuts (J) using the bolts (K) and washers (D).

The two positioned ball guards will overlap each other midway along the tubes. Sandwich both guards between 4 retaining plates (F), offer to the guard bracket (B) and fasten through the plates and guards into the long nuts (J) using the bolts (K) and washers (D).

A: Ball Guard, B: Guard bracket, C: U Bolt, D: Washer. E: Nut, F: Retaining Plate, J: Long Nut, K: Bolt

Where the leg of the brackets passes through both sections of mesh, remove mesh wire with suitable snips to suit.

M102015-SUB (3 Module)

There are two guard brackets on a three module version. Both are positioned just prior to the fixed existing suspension brackets, no.s 2 and 3 down the tube. The positioning is critical to allow the correct overlap of the ball guards.

Starting close to the second fixed suspension bracket (H), position the guard bracket (B) 165mm +/- 5mm PRIOR to the fixed suspension bracket (i.e. burner side). Fasten to the tubes using the two U bolts (C) and nuts (E) to suit.

Repeat this procedure close to the third fixed suspension bracket (H). Position the guard bracket (B) 165mm +/- 5mm PRIOR to the fixed suspension bracket (i.e. burner side). Fasten to the tubes using the two U bolts (C) and nuts (E) to suit.

Where the leg of the brackets passes through mesh, remove mesh wire with suitable snips to suit.

A: Ball Guard, D: Washer. F: Retaining Plate, J: Long Nut, K: Bolt

Moving to the first Guard bracket, position a LARGE ball guard (A) [2 persons may be required] and overlap the first ball guard. Sandwich both ends between the retaining plates (F), offer to the first guard bracket (B) and fasten through the plates and guard into the long nuts (J) using the bolts (K) and washers (D).

Moving to the second Guard bracket, position a LARGE ball guard (A) [2 persons may be required] and overlap the second ball guard. Sandwich both ends between the retaining plates (F), offer to the second guard bracket (B) and fasten through the plates and guard into the long nuts (J) using the bolts (K) and washers (D).

A: Ball Guard, B: Guard bracket, C: U Bolt, D: Washer. E: Nut, F: Retaining Plate, J: Long Nut, K: Bolt

Offer this ball guard to the last existing suspension bracket (H) closest to the U bend and fasten through the plates and guard into the long nuts (J) using the bolts (K) and washers (D).

A: Ball Guard, D: Washer. F: Retaining Plate, J: Long Nut, K: Bolt

Where the leg of the brackets passes through both sections of mesh, remove mesh wire with suitable snips to suit.
